Database Maintenance 101 Franz Hall #214 Shirley Lincicum, Western Oregon University
This session will discuss approaches to tackling database maintenance and clean-up tasks using various features of the Innovative Interfaces system, such as Create lists, Headings reports, Statistical reports, Rapid update, and Global update. The presentation will discuss system configuration options and considerations, strategies for identifying and gathering problematic records, and capabilities and limitations of the various Innovative features. The focus will be on tasks that can be accomplished without exporting data from the system. Attendees are encouraged to come prepared to share questions, examples, and/or challenges they've faced.
Style sheets, javascripts, wwwoptions, static and dynamic webpages - this session will show how to get them to work together in the system to allow for CSS buttons and style sheet switchers. Integrating a style sheet switcher in the III OPAC (either for cosmetic reasons, i.e. changing color schemes, or for reasons of necessity, i.e. to optimize the OPAC for different browsers) is a challenge. Add to that the desire to use CSS buttons (no more creating endless gif buttons!) and it becomes even more confusing. It's easy enough for a static webpage, but how to incorporate it into the dynamic screens? And how do the wwwoptions fit into the mix? It can be done! In this session I'll share what I have learned and show the result - George Fox University 's OPAC. (Advanced audience: A general knowledge of html, style sheets and wwwoptions would be beneficial. Examples of GFU’s wwwoption file, style sheets, and the javascripts that allow it all to work will be provided.)

Interlibrary loan and circulation share many of the same functions, including tracking requests and delivery checkout, email receipt and overdue notices, and return of items to the original lender. Applications that eliminate duplicate record-keeping and streamline functions serve to reduce overall costs and workload for staff. Patrons benefit from only having one place to look for all items requested and checked out. In this session, an overview of the long-standing, well-understood roles of circulation and interlibrary loan will be discussed.
